What you should pay attention to with the running leash for dogs
Do you like to take the dogs outside for a run or a longer walk in your free time? Then a running leash for dogs can be quite suitable. It differs from the "normal" dog leash and can make running more pleasant. The following text tells you what you should pay attention to.

The running leash for dogs - general features
In your free time, such a leash is just ideal for you and your four-legged friend, as you can give the dogs a lot more "run out" without actually having to let the dogs off the leash. This type of leash is also often called a drag leash, but in most cases it often means the same type of leash. These leashes are usually between five and 20 metres long and can be extended or shortened by you as you wish.

Unlike the roller line, the running line does not have this mechanism, you have to lengthen the line manually, so to speak, and keep the rest of the line in your hand. These draglines are attached to the dog's harness so that the dogs are properly secured.
In addition, you should never simply attach the towing line to the dog's collar, as serious injuries in the neck area can occur if, for example, you need to call the dog back quickly, or pull or stop it.

Animals and jogging
Dogs love to be outside in the fresh air. So why not use this connection and go jogging with the animals? You will need a special leash for this too and should not use the simple lead line. In addition, in many federal states, as well as cities and communities, there is a general obligation to keep your dog on a leash, which you should of course adhere to.

In addition, you can control the animals much better when running or jogging and you don't have to worry about your four-legged friend running off into the countryside or chasing animals living in the forest. If you also use an extra chest strap for your dog when jogging, sensitive cervical vertebrae are optimally protected.

The jogging leashes are made of extra elastic material so that your dog feels a certain "freedom" when running and does not feel constricted. You can attach the leash to a belt strap at your place, for example, so that you have your hands free when jogging. Some models can also be thrown over the shoulder so that you can jog freely.

What you should consider
First of all, pay attention to the general leashing requirement that applies in your federal state and keep the animals or dogs on a leash when running. You should also check whether your dog is fit enough to jog with you or whether you should start with a more moderate run or shorter jogging distances. In addition, not every type of dog is suitable for jogging, or can run better in cold areas or in heat.

You should of course take this into account. When jogging in the forest, pay particular attention to oncoming walkers or cyclists, as well as other dog owners, especially if you are on a longer leash. Other dogs can get tangled up very quickly and accidents can happen.

Jogging in summer or winter
Especially the cold season can be fascinating for jogging, a ground covered with snow is certainly always worth an experience and beautiful to look at. However, when jogging or running with your dog, make sure that you protect your pet's paws accordingly.

For example, specialist shops carry extra running shoes that protect paws from too much cold, ice, snow, road salt or small stones that accumulate between the toes of the dog and can cause injury. In such cases, however, give your dog some time to get used to the running shoes, some dogs also resist these "coatings" and have little use for them. With the above tips, the next jogging or running session with your dog may come.
