Taping - Does taping help against back pain?

Can cause painful complaints in case of back pain

Kategorien: Health Hobby Sport

Back pain is currently the most common health complaint in this country. The causes are divided into two categories: In the case of non-specific back pain - the most frequently occurring complaints - the cause cannot be determined exactly. Specific back problems include postural deformity, a herniated disc or muscle tension. The pain causes additional muscular tension, so that the complaints often intensify during leisure time.

Kinesio-Taping in combination with alternative therapies
Kinesiologic taping can be used to loosen and at the same time strengthen the tense muscles. Tapes, which are used for back pain, among other things, were developed by Kenzo Kase in Japan during the 1970s and have proven their worth in sports and many other therapies. Taping is generally beneficial to your health and can be combined with treatment methods such as acupuncture, neural therapy or chiropractic.

What does Tapen mean?
Kinesio-Tape (muscle tape, sports tape or physio tape) is a textile and highly elastic plaster. Taping is used to support damaged or weakened tendons, muscles, joints or ligaments, among other things. The treatment is intended to reduce pain and at the same time promote blood circulation. Tape bands can also be used preventively or to treat signs of wear and tear, injuries and nerve paralysis as well as diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Taping has a positive effect on the lymphatic flow through its massage effect, which among other things helps to reduce hematomas (bruises).

At the same time, the muscle tone is balanced and thus the self-healing powers in the body are stimulated. The Kinesio-Tape is fixed on the corresponding areas, so that your skin as well as the tissue underneath moves against each other during normal movements. This creates a massage effect. Through this permanent stimulus, different receptors are supposed to balance your muscle tension (toning), which triggers a signal transmission to the central nervous system. Kinesio-Tape can be stretched by about 30 to 40 percent, similar to human skin.

How does taping work?
Kinesio-Tape is preferably used as a supporting and gentle component for sports injuries or inflammations that occur during leisure activities. Mostly affected are the medium-sized joints, such as the knee and elbow or the ankle joint. Tapes are a safe treatment for back pain, to relieve tension in the muscles. In order to restore your health, taping should first of all be done by an expert doctor. After a briefing you can also apply kinesio-tape yourself. Your doctor will also determine an individual treatment method for back pain by means of anamnesis and various tests.

Depending on the indication of your doctor, the Kinesio-Tape will be placed exactly in position. The affected skin area should be absolutely free of wounds and/or infections as well as clean and absolutely dry. The tape is first cut to the required length. The corners are rounded off so that the sports tape can adhere perfectly to the skin. Then the tape is rubbed warm with the help of the hands. This allows the adhesive to develop its full effect. The backing film is removed and the sports tape is applied. There must be no wrinkles and the material must only be stretched moderately.

This prevents movements from being restricted or the supporting effect from failing when taping your back pain. The Kinesio-Tape can be shaped in different ways for different therapies. If the flexible tape is cut in half with scissors, a Y-shape is created, which for example encloses the knee. If the stability of the treatment area is to be significantly increased, you can also apply several tapes at right angles to each other. This supports your back muscles lengthwise and crosswise, for example.

Promoting your health with different tapes
The Japanese Kenzo Kase initially worked only with nude-colored tapes. Later, darker colors were added to raise the skin temperature below the sports tapes. Lighter muscle tapes were to lower the temperature. Nowadays you can get kinesio tapes in many different colours to restore your health. Red tapes, for example, are supposed to stimulate the metabolism and blue ones are supposed to relieve pain and cool the skin.
